As every year on these dates Barcelona is adorned with lights, the large avenues like Paseo de Gracia or the Ramblas are covered with multicoloured garlands and the facades of emblematic buildings like the Casa Batlló or the Sagrada Familia offer impressive shows.
One of this year novelties is Paseo de Gracia avenue decoration, based on large luminous 2 meters high stars, reproducing the star of the tower of the Virgin of the Sagrada Familia. Their construction includes many mirrors to create light effects playing with the sun's rays during the day.
We also recommend these new light shows:
Sagrada Familia towers
Inaugurated on December 8th, 2021, a luminous star crowns the Sagrada Familia`s Virgin tower, visible from many viewpoints in Barcelona.
Culminating at 138 meters in height, this tower dedicated to the Virgin is the second tallest of the Sagrada Familia, the tower dedicated to Jesus, when completed, will be 172 meters high and will be the tallest construction in the city.
At the top of the tower a twelve points star, with a diameter of 7.5 meters and a weight of 5.5 tons shines every night in the Barcelona sky.
From December 16 the top of the two new towers dedicated to the evangelists Luke and Mark which have just been completed will be illuminated. 135 meters high, they are crowned by an ox and a winged lion, representation of the first two evangelists according to Christian iconography.
The illuminated Sagrada Familia is an unforgettable sight. During the holidays the new tower will be illuminated from the inside.
Sant Pau Modernist Hospital lights
Built in 1902 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, Sant Pau hospital complex is a masterpiece of modernist architecture, listed as a World Heritage Site.
Less known and visited than the Sagrada Familia, it's a monument that we recommend discovering.
Until January 15 every evening from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. the hospital gardens offer a circular walk of more than a kilometer in a spectacle of plants and dreamlike fairy-tale shapes illuminated by more than a million light. The garden of lasers offers its enchanted paths, the magic wood, the garden of fireflies or the tree of wishes offer surprises for the whole family. You can also enjoy on the hospital facade an hyperrealistic projections thanks to a mapping system.
This show was inaugurated in 2014 in England. It also had a great success in Germany in 2016 as the Christmas Garden of the Berlin Botanical Garden, and was then exported to Stuttgart, Dresden and Madrid.
The facade of Casa Battló, one of the most beautiful buildings on Paseo de Gracia Avenue, is surprising in broad daylight for its shapes and colors.
Now you have the opportunity to discover it at night with an impressive sound and light show.
From November 24 and until January 8, every evening from 5.30 p.m., a 3-minute sound and light show will take place every 30 minutes, which is worth the trip.
You can check the timetables on the casa Battló website.
