Shore Excursion: Walking tour from the cruise port

The

port of Barcelona

has been linked to the history of the city since its foundation by the Romans. Thanks to the natural shelter offered by the Montjuic hill and the Llobregat delta trade develop and convert the city to one of the biggest trading centre of the Mediterranean in the Middle Ages.
The port is therefore the ideal place to start your

chronological approach to Barcelona

. By wandering through the squares and alleys of the historic centre we will take you back in time and the rich history of the city from its foundation to the time of industrialization which allowed the emergence of modernist architecture and the construction of rich mansions and unique and surprising buildings.

For this private walking tour your guide will meet you at the arrival point of the shuttle which serves the cruise port (The Cruise Bus shuttle makes the journey between the various terminals of the port and the beginning of the ramblas, near the statue of Christopher Columbus, every 10 minutes).

The tour will start with the famous

Ramblas

, the well-known Barcelona promenade, and the

Gothic Quarter

. The Gothic Quarter is Barcelona’s historic centre: its history takes you from Barcelona`s foundation, to its medieval past as an important commercial port of the Mediterranean, up to a more current time with still visible remains from the civil war.

Then you will go to

Paseo de Gracia

avenue, the most exclusive avenue in Barcelona, discovering the achievements of the greatest modernist architects, including the

casa Batlló

and the

Casa Milà (La Pedrera)

by

Gaudí

, as well as other lesser-known but equally surprising modernist buildings.

At lunchtime, your guide will take you to the restaurant of your choice (we normally offer

tapas restaurants

to eat quickly). We can show you different quality restaurants at moderate prices, outside of tourist circuits.

After lunch you will visit the

Sagrada Familia

, an unfinished cathedral, is Gaudi's last work before his accidental death. This cathedral impressive for its size and design is a unique work of art that will take your breath away.
Visit of the exterior, the interior and the museum.

Your guide will then take you back to the departure point of the port shuttle around 4:30 pm (most of the cruise companies want you back onboard before 5 pm).
